This recipe was the 1st place winner in Jessie Reimer’s wholefood recipe challenge!! We found out we won this morning and my son was literally dancing around the house with excitement. He wanted to stay home from school to ‘celebrate.’ Um, nice try mate!

I was talking to a mum the other day whose kids have Up & Go’s for breakfast! I’m not going to go all judgy mcjudge face, but…… Up & Go have somehow earned themselves a 5 star health rating, um WTF?! This makes people believe they are giving their children a healthy option but this is SO not the case!

My choc banana smoothie recipe tastes like a yummy treat and is quick and easy to make. If my 8 year old can do it, so can you!

If you agree that the health star rating is a crock, join in the movement and sign the petition here.

To those of you who have kids that love Up and Go, start making smoothies instead!! My son is 8 & he is a pro, it literally takes 2 minutes to make. If you are time poor, you can prep the ingredients the night before. Grab a leak proof insulated cup from here, and drink your smoothies in the car on the way to school drop off or on the way to work.

Ingredients

2 x frozen bananas

1 x pear

1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries

1/4 cup almonds or cashews (optional but gives an extra protein boost)

1 x tbs cacao powder

Dash of cinnamon

Ice cubes

Dash of water

Just under 1 litre of organic almond milk (or your choice of milk)

Protein powder (optional) – we love Australian made & grown hemp protein powder, you can get yours here.

Serves 4

Method

Put all ingredients in your blender and mix until well combined. Enjoy! Smoothies make a great filling snack for afternoon tea too. Let me know if you try it and what you think.
